"Delena is going to happen, it just has to. Everything has a purpose in TVD, and all the little (and big) things that happen between them can’t just be a coincidence; they have to be building up to something, something amazing. When Elena had to make a choice last season between them, she wasn’t in the right place in her life to choose Damon. I think Damon represents a small part of her past, and a big part of her future. Elena was only focusing on the now when she chose Stefan, because at that moment, she thought they may not have a future. But now, she has a future that could stretch out for forever. I think this season will be about Elena thinking about her decision. As a human, she didn’t want to look ahead and think about who she wanted to spend her life with, because there weren’t any options for her. She wanted a family, a job, a normal human life, but she couldn’t have that with either of them. Now she has the same fate as Stefan and Damon, and she is going to have to start thinking about always. All she knew was that when she chose Stefan, she loved him. Elena only really begun having stronger feelings for Damon in season 3, but she still didn’t understand them. She didn’t know whether or not she loved him, and she didn’t have much time to think about it. We don’t know how many people she’s been with, but we can assume she’s never been in love before Stefan and Damon. She’s only 18, and although mature, she doesn’t really know what love is. Her feelings for Stefan and Damon are two different things; she thought she knew what love was with Stefan, but then along comes Damon, and she’s unsure. Stefan is her past, he was there at one of the most difficult times in her life, but Damon is her past, present, and future. He was there in the beginning, he never left, and he never will leave. Damon and Elena will be together."
